3 out of 5 stars It's Been A Struggle   May 5, 2008

I purchased this shower with high expectations, expecting a quality product. Here's my experience to date.

The shower shipped quickly via FedEx freight and arrived in good shape and as promised.

Day 1, unpacked everything to check for shipping damage and missing parts. No shipping damage as it is well packed, but the flexible drain hose that was supposed to be attached to the bottom tray was missing. I contacted the dealer, was referred to Bath Authority who is the distributor, and a hose was shipped to me right away.

I spent a week finishing the tile work in my bathroom, then was ready to assemble and install the shower. First problem I encountered was a discrepancy in installation instructions. When I was initially looking at this unit I had contacted the dealer and asked for a copy of the installation manual. They emailed me a PDF copy, and the instructions were different, though both manuals specified the same model number shower. One set said to install a "U Gasket" around three of the four sides of the fixed glass panels, the other said to install a "U Gasket" on only one vertical edge of the fixed glass panels and install a water barrier gasket along the bottom and top edges once the panel was in place. Well, the package contained six pieces of the U Gasket and none of the water barrier gasket, so I assumed the six piece U Gasket instructions were correct. Wrong. The U Gasket prevents the glass from seating fully in the bottom and top rails. Another call to Bath Authority and they shipped out the water barrier gasket.

This resulted in a week delay as they are on the east coast and I'm on the west coast. I'm assuming the PDF instructions, which called for the water barrier gasket, were the newer ones which are part of a correction to the problem with the U Gasket and I received a unit that had the old parts and instructions.

So, another week without a shower in the master bath and the proper gaskets arrived. I completed assembly of the shower and connected it to the water supply.

Now, the back of this unit is a maze of water hose, valves and fittings. Bear in mind that there are six valves, seven body jets, a handheld shower head, a foot massager, a basin filler and an overhead rainfall shower head. As soon as I turned on the water there were multiple leaks on most of the supply side fittings on the back of the shower. The instructions do warn you to check all fittings as they may have loosened in shipping, and I had done this, insuring that all hoses were fully onto their fittings and all hose clamps were tight. The way this unit is constructed, only the valves have brass fittings on the back side. All of the water heads have PVC hose barb fittings. All but one of these on the supply side were broken and the only thing holding them together was the hose and hose clamps. I then began checking the delivery side and found the fittings on the back of four of the body jets were also broken. I have replaced everything on the supply side and eliminated all my leaks. Unfortunately, the fittings on the back of the body jets are integral to the jets and I've had to call Bath Authority AGAIN to get these replaced. Here's another week without a shower in the master bath.

Now for some comments on the quality of the unit itself, and no I still haven't been able to take a shower in it.

The construction of the base appears to be solid and of good quality. It is sturdy and well supported with seven height adjustable legs. The glass and frame also appear to be of good quality as is the back of the shower which is acrylic covered fiberglass.

As for the rest, I am very disappointed. All shower heads and jets are chromed plastic. The only metal pieces are the hoses for the hand held shower head and for the foot massager.

I gave this three stars because the fit and finish of the unit is quite good, and in all fairness Bath Authority has been very good about sending me the parts I needed without any questions. I look forward to actually taking a shower in it, and am curious to see if I will need to add or take away stars.

Bottom line, if I hadn't already assembled the unit and broken down and disposed of the packaging, I would probably be returning it. That is said more because I'm pretty frustrated with having to replace almost all of the plumbing on the back and now having to wait another week for more parts.
